Tonight is the 2nd Annual Blondes vs. Brunettes flag football game at Greg Sherwood Memorial Bulldog Stadium in Plainview for the Alzheimer’s Association. Chairperson Patricia Alvarez says it is a tough game that goes toward a disease with no cure.

They raised just under $50,000 last year. The game will be played even if it rained unless there is lightning. The action begins at 6 pm. Tickets are $25 and can be purchased at the gate. Donations also are welcome.

An Xcel Energy plant has been named plant of the year. Harrington Generating Station, northeast of Amarillo, received the honor from the Powder River Basin Coal User’s Group. The trade association recognizes those who use coal safely from the Powder River in Wyoming. The station met several criteria to achieve the honor, including safety, coal handling, innovation, plant operations and environmental performance. Harrington also had high marks for using treated wastewater and cycling that out for farm irrigation use. Harrington Generating Station has 3 units and operates at 1,000 megawatts through coal power.
